Men’s health – The masculine imperative


Typical male – where does it come from? To meant times of the Neanderthal man, to hunt mammoths and build caves. Therefore, the men of Neandertal, and all the other valleys, mountains and plains had to be especially strong, have courage and willing to take risks.

“Seven masculine Imperative”

Today, the mammoths are extinct, but the male self-understanding has not changed fundamentally. The American psychologist Herb Goldberg has described the self-understanding of the men in the “seven masculine Imperative“:

  1. the less sleep I need,
  2. the more pain I can endure,
  3. the more alcohol I can have,
  4. the less I care about what I eat,
  5. the less I ask someone for help and being dependent on someone am,
  6. the more I control my feelings and pressures,
  7. the less I pay attention to my body,

the male I am.

This setting leaves no space for a supposedly “female” characteristics, the stresses in General, with “feeling, gently, the feelings of others described conscious, helpful,” and the like. Masculinity is understood as described above, it is behavior counter-productive for any kind of health.

The feminine side

Although the picture has changed from the man since then, and men are discovering their feminine side. A basic reverse there is not yet.
